This middle or high school art, graphic design, character design assignment tasks students with designing their own character using Procreate. No experience is needed, learn alongside your students! All you need is an iPad and preferably an Apple Pencil.
In an Introduction to Design or Media Art course, learning program basics is an essential part. This Procreate activity introduces students to basic tools and functions in Procreate as well as tasking them with a larger project, designing a character.
The Procreate character design project is open-ended, allowing students to develop the character of their choice. They are pushed to consider the media if it’s for a movie, TV show, video game, picture book, or similar. While the art project is open-ended, it also includes step-by-step guides to help them through every part of the assignment.
This lesson plan pack is extremely comprehensive. Even if you have zero experience with Procreate, you can learn along with the students with the resources included. Step-by-step instructions to learn program basics and an overview of the tools and menus are included.
All in all this pack has:
- Lesson Plan (with big idea, national standards, vocabulary, step-by-step instructions, and more)
- Procreate tools and menu reference/printable
- Procreate basics activity walkthrough
- 3 PowerPoints to introduce concepts
- Research activity
- Character development activity
- Project guide to walk students through the steps to develop their character using Procreate
