Description

About this original work of art:

A 6″x6″ antique photography mixed media work of art. This piece is a one-of-a-kind work of art that breathes life back into an antique photograph. The original photograph was found at an Atlanta estate sale and is sealed in wax to help preserve it. The piece is created by layering art paper on a wood panel, sealing the layers with clear and colored encaustic wax.

This small work of art is perfect to sit on a shelf, fill a small space, or hang with a grouping to create a gallery wall. It is 1″ deep and includes a looped wire to hang it.

Encaustic is a unique art form that creates an ethereal and nostalgic look that is one-of-a-kind. There is nothing better than adding original artwork to your home or gifting it to a friend and loved one. Support handmade, local, and working artists with your purchase.

What is encaustic?

What is encaustic? Encaustic is a mixture of beeswax and damar resin. It is melted and fused as layers are added. While it can be scratched, it is a durable surface that will protect collaged layers for years to come. Over time the surface may dull. if you want to maintain a shiny surface all you have to do is periodically rub your palm over the top to buff it back to a high shine.

This work of art was created by me! My name is Whitney, I live in Atlanta, GA and I love making things. My day-to-day life consists of developing education resources for art teachers globally, making encaustic, watercolor, and other mixed media works of art, working in my visual journal, and hanging with my dogs, chickens, kiddos, and hubs.
