High School Photography Project: Make the Ugly Beautiful

$8.00

This high school photography project focuses on turning what some may consider “ugly” subjects into beautiful works of art. Get everything you need to teach!

Description

Teach middle school art and high school art students the artistic side of digital photography and how to look at everything with an artistic eye and turn things typically viewed as ugly into beautiful photographs. In this assignment, students explore the idea, making the ugly beautiful, through two topics: ugly subject, beautiful composition, and glorifying the everyday.

All in all this high school photography lesson pack includes:

  • Lesson plan (including big idea, essential questions, national standards, vocabulary, step-by-step instructions, and more)
  • Presentation 1 (in PDF and PowerPoint)
  • Assignment Handout
  • Presentation 2 (in PDF and PowerPoint)
  • 2 Artist research sheets
  • Critique worksheet
  • Critique prompts
  • Selfie Project rubric

Designed with high school photography students in mind, bring photography out of getting “likes” and back into the world of art by teaching your students how to properly edit their photographs. Separate the taking from the making!

This product was created in collaboration with my amazing friend and coworker, Meagan Brooker. Meagan has taught for many years, with a focus on AP Art, Drawing, and Photography. In addition, she has been responsible for capturing our annual family photographs, maternity, and newborn pictures that I will treasure forever. This girl knows her stuff, and better yet, how to teach it to students.
